Updated Site Map

It is very easy, as your site grows, to have some incorrect things show up on it.  For instance, I recently updated my Site Map.  A more streamlined and easy to edit Site Map that will hopefully be easier to crawl for all search engine spiders.  For some reason, Google hasn’t updated this page yet, so it doesn’t know of the changes.  But back to the point, I had found a bunch of incorrect links on this page that just got lost in the shuffle over the years of editing, changing, adding and subtracting from this Site Map page.  I’m glad I took up the idea of making a change.  The format follows a little more closely with the Yahoo, auto generated www.my-bean-bag-place.com Site Map.  I love that the site creates this page automatically.  If a page goes away, the link does too.  If a page gets added, a link shows up on the site map.

There are a lot of changes coming to My Pillow Place.  Sometimes we have to update things quickly.  Products come and go all the time.  We try and promote our best selling items and de-emphasize our losers as much as we can.  Its funny to think of our site having products on it that have never sold even once.  That’s a crazy concept.  How does a brick and mortor store handle that?  I’ve never worked in a store, but I assume they remove and replace if that happens.

On a different note.  I’ve created a comic book involving the character that is my WordPress Avatar…You can see my story here:  Spectre: A Dark Matter.  Or you can go to Amazon.com and search for that title.  Its pretty exciting to me as I am currently working on the sequel.  I’ve also created a Squidoo Lens to promote the book.  Spectre A Dark Matter on Squidoo.  Check it out!

Site Map Update

It has been a long while since I’ve updated the My Pillow Place Site Map.  I spent some time today going over all of the new products I’ve added and products I’ve removed from our site and I realized that the site map was very inaccurate.  There was a time when I would update the site map immediately upon making and site changes, but my busy schedule has put that task low on the to do list.

The reason that this is an important task is because when some of your inner pages don’t get crawled by the search engine spiders often, the site map provides a prime location where all of the links to all of the pages on your site can be found quickly.  If you don’t keep your site map up to date, you’re doing no one any good.  That included the folks that come to your site and use the site map to navigate.

As far as search engine spiders go, I have posted a link above to our updated site map, spiders will find this blog post, follow that link to our site map.  Then, it will notice that there are huge changes to that page and follow each of the links on the site map to the updated pages on our site.  Hopefully, in the next few days, I’ll see an updated page listed in the cache of each search engines index.
