In Full Swing

Ok, we are fully ready for Online Holiday Shoppers…I’ve gone though the process of adding all the products that I wanted to get up before the end of the year. I’ve posted deadlines on every product that has a holiday ordering deadline and I’ve optimized everything I could. As far as site improvement for www.my-pillow-place.com goes…there’s nothing more I can do this year. The site now can be put on autopilot and we can focus now, on customer service (which usually needs to be ramped up at this time of year.)
I’ve put some of our more popular items on a temporary sale: our very popular Comfy Cocoon Foam Chair and our very popular Jaxx Giant Pillow Sac. The products are great and very popular. We’ve put them on sale for a short amount of time (I haven’t decided how long yet). People are out looking for deals around the holidays in an economy such as this, so we’re trying to do our part to help people out. We’ll probably feature different products over the course of the month. To promote this on our site, we put a section on the left side navigation for “Today’s Specials” and this will hopefully generate some sales.
Now, being that online businesses usually see a very busy time between Mid-November to Mid-December, we’ve seen a little boost in traffic and sales over the last week. Hopefully it ramps up even more over the next few weeks. But our sales are lagging behind last year’s numbers at this date. It makes sense, even though the banking crisis hit last year in October, most people still had jobs. Right now, unemployment is really high. Less people are shopping.
In my personal life, I plan to cut back on shopping for the holiday’s since I lost my day job in June. I’m sure many other people will be doing the same. As we know, if everyone cuts back on shopping, the economy will get worse. We have a government who doesn’t seem to know how to stir economic growth and continues do everything the opposite of what would make business and jobs comes back. But, I digress.
Anyways, here’s hoping that those that still have jobs continue to buy things so that people continue to have jobs. Happy Holidays!
New Years Day

When I look back on 2007, as a whole, we exceeded a lot of our expectations for My Pillow Place. We finished the year really strong and I was pleased at our push at the end of December.
As we begin 2008, we anticipate an even better year. Having our top keywords for Big Floor Pillows appearing on the first page of Google in the last few days, we’ve already seen a difference in traffic and sales. This is great to start the new year knowing it will be a strong one. Well, at least I think I know it will be a strong one.
Holiday Shopping in Full Swing!

Well, I’ve just compared last December’s numbers to this years. In the Month of December 2006, we had about 2000 visitors and 24 sales…We thought that was a good month. So far, after 6 days of December 2007, www.my-pillow-place.com has had 21 sales and we’re getting over 200 visitors per day. I’m pleased with that start. The thing about the month of December is people buy things frantically in the first 2 weeks of the month, but it really tapers off after that. People have spent their holiday budgets. On top of that, the deadlines for shipping items before Christmas expires.
So you have to strike while the iron is hot in the beginning of the month…and hope for the best at the end. We’ve had 2 back to back 5 sale days in the last 2 days….and we’re hoping to see more of that. Happy Holidays from My Pillow Place.
More New Products

November is the kind of month that picks up steam as you approach Thanksgiving. I heard on the local chicago radio the other day that online shopping should start to gain some momentum starting this coming Monday…November 5th. That would be nice. We’ve had a slow beginning to this month. I also heard on the radio that consumer confidence is down and that it may be a lack-luster holiday buying season.
That being said, I am still adding product to our site in order to widen our net and catch more sales. Over the weekend, I added a new Memory Foam Body Pillow. In the coming weeks, we’re getting ready to add some new kids floor pillow products. They are geared more towards kids with fun and cute designed stitched on them. They should sell well. We’ll see how it goes.
Stagnating Traffic

This will be the first month that we’re not on pace to eclipse the previous months traffic. We’ve seen our traffic numbers remain right around the “120 people a day” mark for a few weeks now. In order to get past last months number of about 4095 visitors, we’d have to get a minimum of 150 people per day for the next 6 days.
We are still trying to get listed higher in Google for some of our main keywords. And we’re thinking of adding a new line of pet pillow/bed products. Adding new products, and specifically a new line of products can help boost our traffic and hopefully sales. The nice thing is that some of our suppliers have pet products already in their line, so it would be easy to just add their items to our site.
We’re thinking of putting in place a new pricing structure that would include a free shipping component. Our shipping costs are currently confusing to people, I believe. Some items follow a shipping chart, some items have shipping included in the price. I would be confused on what I was going to be charged it I was a new visitor to My Pillow Place. So to keep it simple, we will most likely employ a new shipping rule after the Holiday Shopping Season.
We’ve also allowed people to opt in to a coupon mailing list. I would like to get a coupon to be used during the month of October for any of our customers who signed up with us to receive coupons. I just have to figure out how to create the field in our shopping cart so people can use the coupon code. I wonder if people will take advantage of the discount. Our list for opt ins probably is in the neighborhood of 20-25 people. But if it can help get us some more sales in October, that would be great. Last October was a real dud. We only had about 3 sales…then November took off!
