Finally

Over the last several years, I’ve written about how Google took us all the way up to a PageRank 3 several years ago…I also wrote about how many of our interior pages were finally getting a PageRank…ones and twos spread throughout the site. Then one day it all disappeared. Google took the PageRank of My Pillow Place away. It didn’t affect any of our keyword positions, but it did take away our PageRank. Other sites are less likely to trade links with you if you have a PageRank of 0. But as an ego thing, you work really hard to make your site work well. If you are awarded with PageRank, you feel good. If you lose it for no reason, you feel like, “WTF?”
That whole diatribe above is to set up the fact that after about 3 years of zero PageRank at My Pillow Place, we now have a PageRank of 2 as of yesterday. I was blown away, because I honestly thought that Google had it out for my site and we’d never have a PageRank again. But yesterday, a PageRank of 2 started to show up on some Datacenters…and many of the interior pages have a PR of 1. This is big news. It may help some of our interior pages get ranked better in the SERPs.
Since I’ve been laid off from my Architect Job last June, I’ve made an effort to trade links everyday since then. And it seems that all of my hard work has finally paid off. I don’t intend to slow down. On this site or any of our others. I trade links for My Bean Bag Place every day too. This site is getting about 15 visitors per day. If we’re going to start getting consistent sales, I’m going to have to start getting listed for the very competitive keywords that we are after. Once that happens, it could change our business. But it will take time. Competitive keywords take a long time to unseat the sites ahead of you. But again, I exchange links every day so that we can get listed higher as quickly as possible.
This is a good news day…I hope good things continue to happen for our business.
Still Going

In moving with our theme of having a very good January, I spoke with our largest manufacturer yesterday. We got on the topic of how we, My Pillow Place, are doing much better than our other competitors who are using that same manufacturer. That is good. I know a lot of people are struggling in this economy and online stores are subject to the same swings.
So, that was a spot of good news knowing that we are enduring in this tough economy, because not everyone is. Its hard to put a face on your competition when all you see is a website. Now looking back on last year, we did ok in January, but there was a slight drop off in traffic and sales in February and by the middle of last year, we were selling less than half of what our highs were. I’d like to do better this year. Again, without my Architecture job, I have to make this business the best I can.
On another positive note, we got our first sale from My Bean Bag Place this week. It is a very positive sign that we got a sale within a month and a half of having a proper retail site up. I hope our next sale comes soon. Traffic is still trickling in from that site. It will take time for the search engines to give us a good steady flow. I have tried some pay per clicks, but its not a constant thing. I like to have organic traffic because its free.
In another attempt to try and help our site, I’ve continued to try and exchange links and we’re on our 4th links page so far…we’re keeping it going.
Bean Bags Galore

As we try to spread our claim of internet real estate with My Bean Bag Place. I’m having trouble getting Google to index these pages. I used to have the My Bean Bag Place URL (which I actually purchased a long time ago) redirected to our My Pillow Place Bean Bag page. But a cached snap shot of the page, shows Google has not updated it yet with our new Yahoo store information.
As the week has gone on, I’ve tried to add some products to it while trying to learn the ins and outs of store design with the Yahoo Store structure, because its so very different from our other ecommerce store solution. The other day, I created a Jaxx Sac Foam Chairs Page to display all four sizes of our Jaxx Sacs. Its a really different structure than our pages on my pillow place, where we sell each size on the same page. I’m not sure which I like better, but I’ll tell how it worked out after we open the store for business in a month or 2.
Today, I added the FUF Chair page on our site which will show all 7 sizes of the available FUF Chairs. Again, it will be set up similarly to the Jaxx pages. I’m still learning how to use the Yahoo store builder, that is built in to the yahoo store. I find it relatively simple (I purchased a for Dummies book to help me) but I find it not very flexible. If there are some design ideas that I have, some that I even employ on my pillow place, I don’t know how to do them. Or even if they are possible. When the site is completed and open, we’ll see how it all turns out.
The idea here is to take the bean bag section of my pillow place and try to gain some ground in the bean bag space.
