Product Changes

Sometimes your vendors come to you and say, “We no longer carry this product, but this new product will be replacing it.”  And that has happened to us several times over the life of our business (which is 3 months into its 3rd year.)  We had a very popular Body Pillow which was selling well, and for some reason or other they needed to change the product into another.  So, I spent last night changing our old body pillow product into the new and improved UniPillow Body Pillow

So that work is done and will get modified as I go along and figure out how to best market this new product.  I also see that I may want to revamp our Body Pillows splash page in order to best display our growing line.  I would like to get as many products above the fold as possible.

After spending some of last week and last weekend adding some new dog beds products, we are starting to get long tail searches for dog beds.  I was able to get those pages indexed quickly and we’re getting searches which is a very positive sign.  Now to try and close our first sale!

Promoting My New Pages…

When I create a new product page, the first thing I do is blog about it.  The search engines spider my blog quickly, especially when I ping it.  I’ve set up a Google Alert to tell me when new information regarding “the life of an online business – My Pillow Place, shows up in their freshly crawled content.  Links from my blog, back to the page help it get indexed pretty fast.  I usually see pages show up in the Google index in a day or 2.

I also go ahead and add the link in on of my Squidoo lenses.  Because I’ve just added a new Body Pillow, and I didn’t have a Body Pillow Lens, I created a new Squidoo lens for Body Pillows. Then I interlinked it with my other lenses and just like that, new content can be found when the search engines follow the links in my already indexed content.  By updating and adding new information every so often, I can get fresh content reindex quickly.
