First for Once

Google has finally given my Floor Pillow listing a number one placement. As of yesterday, we jumped over Crate and Barrel. Nice. I will see how long this lasts…but I’d like to see our traffic get a boost from being number 1. We’re doing ok.
All the optimization work I did last week for bean bags hasn’t been updated yet. Google’s cache is still showing pages from January 23rd. It may take 2 or 3 indexings to get my changes flushed through the system and see some positive keyword movement.
I am actually going to be taking a break from any updates or optimizing for the next 2 weeks. I would like to see what happens from the internal linking exercises that I’ve already done. I may work on some Web 2.0 stuff and open accounts with some other social networking sites, but only a little bit. I’ve updated some of my squidoo lenses such as floor pillows and bean bags. But, my mind needs a brake from this.
I’m also going to spend some time reading and learning more about how to make my website convert better. And the biggest thing I will do is to figure out if it is viable to do a second website and maybe explore some concepts for that. A product site, an affliate site…not sure…Tell you what, I would love to not have to worry ab0ut the things I worry about with a product site. Shipping delays being the biggest thing that I stress about….
Bean Bag Optimization
January 25, 2008 at 12:53 pm | In online retailing | Leave a CommentTags: bean bags, floor pillows, Foam Furniture
Well, my success in optimizing my Floor Pillows splash page has prompted me to do the same for my Bean Bags splash page, as well as my Foam Furniture splash page. I found my Bean Bag listing all the way down at page 29 of Googles listings. And many of the pages that are ahead of me are completely irrelevant to the topic. So, with a little work, it shouldn’t be too hard to jump ahead of many of these pages.
I have managed to get the Bean Bags page back up to the 4th page of Yahoo!, but people don’t really get to the 4th page of any search engine’s results unless they’re desparate. I’ve worked hard to begin a series of inter-linking of pages on my site in order to create an authority hub. By interlinking pages with common anchor text, it should help to spread some of the Google juice around the site and help it become more important to Google. With any luck, in a week or 2, my listings should climb up many places…
Google Love
January 24, 2008 at 3:46 am | In online retailing | 1 CommentI still don’t have any page rank on my site at all. There was a recent page rank update and reading the forums about SEO, some people went up, some people went down and many, like myself, kept the same pagerank as before.
PageRank is really just an ego thing. I really could care less about it. But it makes your site look better to anyone who knows what pagerank is.
What is better is that I’ve done a few new optimizing techniques that have rocketed my most important keyword to the top of Google’s natural listing and giving me a double, indented listing. This is really great. Because of this, our traffic has gone from a sputtering 120 visitors per day (3 months ago) to over 300 per day this week. This has been sustainable numbers.
I fear that the economy is threatening our sales. We’re getting the visitors, but not the conversions. But we’re still doing ok…on pace to match December’s numbers which were our best to date.
I plan next to optimize Bean Bags the same way I did for Floor Pillows and we’ll see some amazing results I hope.
Quick Results
January 11, 2008 at 11:06 am | In online retailing | Leave a CommentI found it amazing that I created a page yesterday for a niche of Children’s floor pillows, and the page was indexed in less that 24 hours and showed up on the first page of google for the keyword phrases “floor pillows for kids” and “fun floor pillows”…both keyword phrases actually have an extensive list of indexed pages…so they are pretty competitive.
It amazes me that my indexing techniques are starting to work and I’m see quick results in Google…a search engine that a year ago, was showing www.my-pillow-place.com no love at all.
New Pages for Increased Exposure
January 10, 2008 at 9:57 am | In online retailing | Leave a CommentTags: childrens floor pillows, Dorm Furniture
Many times, to get listed for different keywords, I’ll create new splash pages with different topics to increase exposure for some of my products. For instance, I’ve created a dorm furniture page to capture those people looking for bean bags for their dorms…
Today, I created a children’s floor pillows page. This page is full of products that are all listed on other splash pages, but it now is a new collection and has a Children’s slant attached to it. I have to be careful as to not duplicate content on these pages or else Google will frown upon that. Another reason to create this page is that in the next few weeks, we will be adding a new line of cute children’s floor pillows that no one else has. Its an exciting line from a new company that’s beginning to grow. By getting this page indexed now, it will be faster indexing and exposure for this new line of Children’s pillows.
