Christmas Eve

snowflake5.gifWell, my prediction that our sales would slow dramatically after the reasonable shipping time passed came true.  We’ve had one sale since the 20th…and I’m guessing it wasn’t meant to be a gift.  Still…we’ve had our best month so far…and we still have some time left.  I think we still could get some sales after Christmas Day.

One great gift that Google gave us today was that our oversized floor pillow page now rests on the first page in Google for the keywords Floor Pillow and Floor Pillows.  This is exciting because if we can have it stay there for awhile, January 2008 might be very good for My Pillow Place….

On a sad note, Bean Bags continue to fall in Yahoo…and I will dedicate the rest of this week to get Yahoo to love us again….Merry Christmas!

Irritating

Something happened the other day that really irritated me.  One of my link partners emailed me to ask me to remove their link from my site.  People usually don’t mind having links.  A link to your site can’t hurt you.  It the sites you link to that can penalize you with the search engines.  I’m not sure why someone would make this request.  Maybe he figured my site was banned or something because of my recent pagerank loss…I removed the link but didn’t email the idiot back to let him know that I took it down…he’s emailed me again asking to have it taken down, but I just deleted the email.  Its already down, if you checked it yourself you would see that, dumbass!  On top of that, if it is my pagerank decline that caused this issue, it is ridiculous.  I am sure that this is a temporary glitch and once Google updates its index again, I’ll get me rank back…again, all my keyword positions have not only remained, but some have gotten better since the PR of 0…

Anyway, I digress…I’ve watched, in Yahoo, my floor pillow page float between the 1st and 4th position on the page.  We’re still getting a good amount of traffic.  Our sales have trailed off a bit, but we’re still getting more than I expected based on the fact that our shipping deadlines are well past.  I will be spending some time next week working on the website and improving things.  Optimizing for the engines, maybe writing some articles and other things like that.  I also might consider redesigning our homepage for 2008…That would be fun. On a final note on my keywords.  In Yahoo, my bean bags page has almost fallen off the map….at one point, My Pillow Place was the 13th listings…now we’re several pages back…what’s up with that?

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that my Google PageRank has been pushed down to 0.  And there is no reason for this to happen.  I haven’t really noticed any other website that I monitor getting punished by Google this way.  I’ve never done anything that I am aware of that Google considers bad or manipulative.  Needless to say, sometimes sites get reviewed by the algorithm and punished…that’s the problem with a computer determing your rank.

Aside from that, my keyword positions are stable and we’re getting a good amount of traffic and sales.  We always want more than we get, but I’m not complaining.  In Yahoo my pages for Floor Pillows and Bean Bags keep dropping.  Not sure why.  I know I haven’t been working on SEO much, but the business has been busy, so I’ve put it off.  I have to get back to creating good and unique content.  I think one of the things I might do to my homepage is reduce the size of my opening text and add more information.  Googlebot can’t read the images that I have at the top of the page…that is more for the user anyway.

Google Slapped…

I was looking through our site last night and I noticed that every single one of my pages had lost its page rank…our page rank on every page was not that high to begin with, but with the previous update, we had started to see 1’s and 2’s on many interior pages where there had been 0’s and gray bars before.

Now, all we have is 0’s and gray bars…I can’t explain this.  I figured with the acceptance of www.my-pillow-place.com into the Yahoo! directory, that would be an authority one way link that would be a benefit and show Google that we are a trusted site.

I really shouldn’t worry about the Google PageRank bar.  I mean, it really doesn’t mean anything and our keyword positions are still the same.  But its more of a mental thing.  You think you’re doing better when you see your page rank climb.  Its kind of an indication from Google that you’re improving in their eyes…and all of a sudden our page rank is 0 on every page.

I can’t explain it.  I just hope its not an indication that Google will soon slap us with a penalty.  I have never engaged in any black hat SEO tactics…so I hope they wouldn’t hurt My Pillow Place just as we’re starting to get more Google Traffic.

Holiday Shopping in Full Swing!

Well, I’ve just compared last December’s numbers to this years.  In the Month of December 2006, we had about 2000 visitors and 24 sales…We thought that was a good month.  So far, after 6 days of December 2007, www.my-pillow-place.com has had 21 sales and we’re getting over 200 visitors per day.  I’m pleased with that start.  The thing about the month of December is people buy things frantically in the first 2 weeks of the month, but it really tapers off after that.  People have spent their holiday budgets.  On top of that, the deadlines for shipping items before Christmas expires.

So you have to strike while the iron is hot in the beginning of the month…and hope for the best at the end.  We’ve had 2 back to back 5 sale days in the last 2 days….and we’re hoping to see more of that.  Happy Holidays from My Pillow Place.
